Christopher Heap, M.A.

Registered Psychological Associate

College of Psychologists of Ontario

I graduated from the University of Guelph in 1984 with my Honours B.A. in Psychology.  I subsequently attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario where I graduated with my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 1986.  I continued in the Graduate Program at Queen's until 1989 when I accepted a position with the Peterborough County Board of Education working with children and their families.  I was  awarded an adjunct teaching position at Trent University in 1990.

In 1991, I elected to take on a new challenge and accepted a position at the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph, Ontario.  I worked at Homewood for 14 years, primarily assessing and treating individuals with mood disorders (e.g. depression; bipolar illness), anxiety, post traumatic stress symptoms, eating disorders, anger management problems and substance abuse problems.  After 14 years of working at Homewood I opened a private practice.

In 1994, I became registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.  I was required to meet the following pre-requisites;  5 years of clinical supervision by a registered member of the College; successful completion of a written examination and a thorough interview involving a review of my training, work experience, understanding of ethical principles and appraisal of my ability to work as an independent practitioner.
